I'd like to start by saying that I won't be going to NOVA or any similar GT anytime soon, but if I was I would be forced to play a 2k list. Since I am an uncreative bore, I think I'd have to play a dual rock BT list. I was checking out the list that Marshal Laeroth is working on, and it made me think. His list is probably better overall, but I know me: I get bored if I don't have assault units to smash things with and I think people are starting to skimp on melta weapons more and more, meaning Land Raiders are a bit more playable than they were last summer.
Don't play this list if you have tiger blood. |
I'm guessing over a 5 round tournament, this list would be good enough (in my feeble hands) for a 3-2 finish. So here is what I came up with.
Champ with AAC 150
5x Assault Terminators w/ Furious Charge + LRC+smoke 483
5x Assault Terminators w/ Furious Charge + LRC+smoke 483
5x Initiates w/ MM+Melta in Rhino w/ extra armor + smoke 158
5x Initiates w/ MM+Melta in Rhino w/ extra armor + smoke 158
5x Initiates w/ MM+Melta in Rhino w/ extra armor + smoke 158
5x Initiates w/ Lascannon + Plasmagun 101
5x Initiates w/ Lascannon + Plasmagun 101
3x Land Speeder Typhoons 210
Total = 1,992
It do what it do.
I'll be playing a ton of Guild Wars this weekend, biking, and modeling/painting. Have a good weekend.
can I ask why FC? I've gotten the impression it's a little redundant for BT, but I am a new player and might be understanding things wrong.
ReplyDeleteAlso, why Rhinos vs razors or preds? I mean I understand that the Rhinos are a dedicated choice and thus "free" FOC options - and maybe that is why- but wouldn't a razor or pred offer better Long range options? again: new player with a lot of dumb questions.
Furious Charge because they are in Land Raiders and will be getting the charges off consistently. In a Land Raider list, I would run 3 with Lightning Claws and 2 with Thunderhammer/Storm shields. The TH/SS don't gain much from FC, but the LC do, and they will be doing a lot of killing.
ReplyDeleteRhinos because I don't have the points to run 3 Razorback units and have two more troop choices. This set up gives me 5 scoring units, 3 of which can sit in the midfield and shoot two meltas, and two that sit back on objectives and fire lascannons. Razors are better in a gunline army, which this is not.
As this is an assaulty army, I don't need too much long range firepower. The Land Raiders suck up the points that would go to Predators or Vindicators. Plus, crusader squads can't ride in those options so I have to pick Rhinos or Razors, and I already explain why Rhinos are better in this list. 3 Typhoons are cheap provide good long range fire support.
Yeah, its a big risk that I take going into the tournament by not having melta in my list. I do it for a couple reasons:
ReplyDelete1) The tournament is touted as being as competitive as you get. So most of the lists there will be balanced in nature. The rock Raider armies will hopefully fall before they reach my table.
2) I have so many lascannons that I have a statistically good chance of stopping two raiders by turn three at the lastest. Add in the Demo Cannon, and you've got even better chances. There are also tank-hunting chainfists in there for emergencies.
3) Because everything is ranged in the list, meltaguns don't really fit. They would be a wasted tool for most of the game, though, I did strongly consider making the ISTs with melta. I may still do so if my playtesting shows that it needs doing.
Thanks for reading...and let me know if you have any critiques or comments. I've got a few months until the tournament, so I'm starting early so I can work the kinks out. :)
