WHFB: Dark Elves and 'Ard Boyz

This has not been my year for Fantasy tournaments.  Last month I miss the Adepticon Fantasy Championships, and this month I'm missing 'Ard Boyz.  Unfortunately, one of my best friends is getting hitched this weekend and my heart sank when GW posted the date for 'Ard Boyz.  It's a bummer, because I have my list written, assembled, painted, based, and ready to stomp faces with hot, hot, Dark Elf action.

I figure it will be a long time before I get to play this list (unless someone from my LGS who places in the prelims wants to let me attend the semi-finals in their place) so I will post it now and give it a talking over before I put it on the shelf for a year or so.

Picture this, but with 800 more points.

Dark Elves Hot Wheels and Hydras 3,000pts

Supreme Sorceress
-Level 4 Lore of Shadow
-Dark Steed
-Pendant of Kahleth
-Focus Familiar
=350

Sorceress
-Lore of Shadow
-Tome of Furion
-Power Scroll

[This is my magic package.  Ideally, the L1 will get Miasma and Pit of Shades.  Cast an IMBA Pit of Shades turn 1, and continue casting it each turn until the she blows herself up.  The SS will cast the wonderful debuffs that Shadow brings and generally help me win the game.]

Master
-Battle Standard Bearer
-Shield, Halberd, Sea Dragon Cloak
-Cold One Chariot
-Armor of Eternal Servatude
-Dragonbane Gem
=245

Master (General)
-Heavy Armor, Shield, Sea Dragon Cloak
-Sword of Swift Slaying
-Cold One Chariot
=195

[My fighty characters.  The BSB is absolutely critical to keep the motor pool from being Stupid.  The BSB is kitted out to not die to anything.  I try not to commit him to combats he will be tarpit in, or even have a chance of dying in.  The master is useful for a the LD9 leadership bubble, and for being an offensive nightmare with lot's of always strikes first re-rolling to hit attacks.]

11x Repeater Crossbowmen
-Shield
-Standard
-Musician
=136

10x Repeater Crossbowmen
-Shield
-Standard
-Musician
=125

10x Repeater Crossbowmen
-Shield
-Standard
-Musician
=125

[These guys shoot stuff, and generally are awesome.  I normally don't give them standards, but when I wrote the list I was worried about Blood and Glory, but now that I see it won't be part of the prelims, I could use these points elsewhere.]

6x Dark Riders
-Musician
-Repeater Crossbows
=139

5x Dark Riders
-Musician
-Repeater Crossbows
=117

5x Dark Riders
-Musician
-Repeater Crossbows
=117

[So these are way better than most people think.  There is an added bonus few consider: they give a nearby Supreme Sorceress cover from shooting, and a 4+ Look Out Sir save.  You thought it was hard to kill her with the PoK?  Well add another 4+ invulnerable onto that.  Yadda yadda rear/flank charges, harass war machines.]

6x Cold One Chariots
=600
[If you don't know, you better ask somebody.  Deliver blows to the fucking face.]
4x War Hydras
=700

[Deliver more blows to more fucking faces.]

Total: 2,999

So it's a list I absolutely love.  It has powerful magic, some shooting, and insane close combat ability.  Plus, it's insanely hard to kill for an Elf based list.  The amount of high toughness, high armor save, multi-wound models.  It will be difficult for other armies to deal with 12 monsters while at the same time killing my Core units AND dealing with my magic.

The weakness is the difficulty breaking ranked infantry.  My only real solution to dealing with masses of infantry is multi-charges and killing them all.  Or dropping Miasma and then Pit of Shades on them.  Either one works.  But my reliance on monsters to do my killing can result in some awkward situations where I am tarpitted.  I just have to be a good enough general to compensate for that eventuality, right?

  1. Shame you aren't gonna be participating. I'll be taking an ugly, not very good list this year, since I may or may not have the money to buy a 4th hydra, or another 4 chariots. Heh, I honestly might not have the points for 3000, I might have to take a dragon, haha.

Ah well, there's always next year, right? :)

As an aside, this list looks good, it would be an enormous pain in my ass to deal with. :-p

  2. I really like your list. Massed chariots can be fun now that S7 doesn't kill them with contemptuous ease. I have a question about your level 1, though. Is she legal? Tome of Furion and Power Scroll are both arcane items of which you can only take one, I believe. Otherwise, sweet list. Shadow does seem to be the lore to take with Dark Elves.

  3. You might be right about the double arcane, I don't have my army book with me right now. If that turns out, we can drop the tome and find the points to push her to Level 2 which will accomplish the same thing.

  4. I just played in the Ardboyz tourny round 1 yesterday. Out of 6 people at me LFGS, the Dark Elf player won with his 4 Hydra list.
